Mental Health and Wellbeing
At All Saints CE First School, we believe that mental health and emotional wellbeing are just as important as physical health. We are committed to creating a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, heard, and supported.
Supporting Children’s Mental Health
Children’s mental health can affect how they think, feel, and behave. It influences their ability to learn, build relationships, and cope with life’s challenges. We understand that children may experience a range of emotions throughout the day, and we aim to help them recognise and manage these feelings in a healthy way.
What We Do in School
To support our pupils' emotional wellbeing, we use daily check-ins inspired by the Colour Monster book. Each morning, children place their named lollipop stick into the jar that best represents how they are feeling—happy, sad, angry, scared, calm, or loved. This simple yet powerful activity helps children identify and express their emotions, and it allows staff to follow up with individual children who may need a conversation or extra support.
This approach encourages emotional literacy, builds trust, and helps us respond to children’s needs in a timely and compassionate way.
