The school
All Saints CE (VC) First School is situated in North Staffordshire in the village of Standon, within a few miles of Stone, Eccleshall and Newcastle. We are a small, rural village school with 39 pupils on role and a governor run nursery. Our school plays a key role in the local community and has a warm, family atmosphere with a strong Christian ethos.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a reliable, proactive and practical individual with experience of carrying out general maintenance, repair and site upkeep tasks. You should have a good standard of practical skills and be confident undertaking minor repairs, basic decorating, furniture assembly and routine maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming school environment, including carrying out outdoor duties such as clearing pathways, removing leaves and debris, and supporting the day-to-day operation of the site. You must be able to work independently, manage your workload effectively and demonstrate a flexible, solution-focused approach. Good interpersonal skills, health and safety awareness, reliability and a commitment to safeguarding are essential.
The role
- Carrying out routine site maintenance and minor repairs to school buildings, fixtures, fittings and equipment
- Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming outdoor environment, including clearing pathways, removing leaves and debris, litter picking and emptying external bins
- Undertaking minor decorating tasks, furniture assembly and installation of items such as shelves, display boards and classroom resources
- Supporting the security and day-to-day operation of the school site, including opening and securing premises where required
- Carrying out routine checks and reporting any health and safety concerns, defects or maintenance issues promptly
- Assisting with the set up and clearing away of furniture and equipment for school events and activities
- Maintaining clear and safe access to the school site, including supporting gritting and snow clearance during adverse weather conditions
- Liaising with contractors and supporting the wider staff team to ensure the school environment is maintained to a high standard
Previous experience in a maintenance, caretaking, facilities or trade-related role would be advantageous but is not essential.
